Safe Natural Gas

To prevent safety risks and avoid potentially hazardous situations, all inspections by the distribution company must be fully completed before natural gas is used. Following initial gas supply activation or the renewal of a natural gas supply agreement, natural gas may only be used with the distribution company’s approval, while gas-burning appliances must only be operated after they have been inspected by an authorised service provider.

Flues serving gas-burning appliances must always discharge directly to the outside air, and an appropriate ventilation opening must be provided in the enclosed space. Flue joints must be securely fixed to the wall and installed in a manner that prevents flue gas leakage. During winter, external sections of flue pipes may become dislodged or damaged due to ice build-up or other external factors. Both the internal and external sections of flue systems should therefore be inspected regularly.

Open-flued appliances must never be installed in bathrooms, toilets or bedrooms, and their location must not be changed without the distribution company’s approval. A carbon monoxide alarm must be installed wherever an open-flued appliance is used, and it should be checked to ensure that it remains in proper working order.

Ventilation openings provide the fresh air required for efficient combustion and help ventilate the space and disperse any gases that may be present. They must therefore never be blocked or obstructed.

To protect life and property and prevent damage to natural gas infrastructure, all excavation work must be carried out with the knowledge and permission of the natural gas distribution company in accordance with the regulations of the Infrastructure Coordination Centre (AYKOME). Before any infrastructure work begins, the Aksa Natural Gas Solution Centre on 444 4 187 should be notified to help ensure that the work can be carried out safely without damaging natural gas pipelines. As unauthorised excavation is prohibited on streets where natural gas pipelines are present, if you notice any suspicious activity or a suspected gas leak, immediately report it by calling the 187 Natural Gas Emergency Line, available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.
